Sal de Colima – Hand-Harvested Sea Salt from Mexico’s Pacific Coast
Born from the sun, sea, and centuries of tradition.
Our Sal de Colima is a tribute to the slow, sacred art of salt-making in Cuyutlán, Colima, a coastal village on Mexico’s Pacific shore where salt has been harvested by hand for over 500 years. Here, the ocean’s waters are drawn into ancient clay-lined pools, where the sun and wind slowly evaporate the water, leaving behind coarse, mineral-rich crystals that are carefully collected by local salt farmers—many of whom have been practicing this ancestral craft for generations.
This unrefined sea salt contains a spectrum of trace minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium—giving it not just superior flavor, but also a subtle natural boost for your body. Unlike heavily processed table salts, Sal de Colima is free from additives and retains its natural character and crunch.
In the kitchen, it’s endlessly versatile. Use it while cooking, of course—but where it really shines is as a finishing salt: over grilled meats, fresh tomatoes, roasted vegetables, or even dark chocolate. Its coarse texture makes it ideal for rimming cocktails, mixing with flaked hibiscus, our Pica Maica, or even pulverized chapulines for an adventurous, protein-rich seasoned salt blend.
At Matriarca, we believe in ingredients with a story. This salt carries the ocean, the land, and the hands of generations—elevating everything it touches with flavor, memory, and pride.
